Some games are an acquired taste. They look a little bit strange, play a little bit odd, and it’s hard to understand how some people would get enthralled with them. Cash Cow slot game is a wonderful example of that, likely appealing very heavily to someone that likes the south, farming, and things of that nature, but ultimately being a little bit offputting and strange to everybody else. It’s not all that well put together, but they clearly tried, and we imagine that some people will like the theme so much that they will stick around for more than a few spins.
The graphics here are a little bit offputting, or at least to us personally. Everything is rendered in 3-D with wonderful colors and nice expressions, but all of it looks somewhat brown, dirty, and hard. It’s a perfect fit for the theme, being a farm in the south, but as far as being pleasing to the eyes go, it’s somewhat hit or miss. The cow in particular looks nice, which is good considering the name was named after him, but everything else looks a little bit dingy and off. This makes it feel a little bit cheaper the longer we were playing it, as they didn’t even take the time to do much with the animations or anything of that nature. The game play itself is also very standard, despite double the number of lines that you can bet on when compared to other games.
Taken together, none of these things are all that bad. It is still a decently done game and plays just as well as most of the other ones if you focus on the winnings alone. Everything else about it, however, feel somewhat second rate. We wish that they would have taken a little bit more time when they did this one to make it really shine, as what is left is something few people can relate to quite strongly or love, or will think is very strange and stop playing after a few spins.
What You Can Expect
Keeping your expectations low when it comes to this game is probably a good idea. Not because it is bad in anyway, as that is clearly not the case. It is somewhat mediocre in pretty much everything, however, which is why we are somewhat hesitant to call this a good one.
For starters, everything is somewhat lazily done around the edges. Although they took the time to make everything as a 3-D model and paint it, the way they chose to do it seems somewhat standard. Everything has a somewhat flat look to it, is not as inviting and expressively done as they were probably going for. This is a shame, because they clearly put a lot into this one, but that’s the way it ended up.
Aside from that, and you have a game that is fairly boring to play. If you like the classic slot games, this one is a five reel version of those, but that’s about it. There’s no special mechanics that happen while you’re playing a side from deciding how the bonuses work before you start, the images will spin by in a fairly static way, and none of that really stands out all that much.
We do commend them for letting us match things that are slightly off kilter on the reels, but that’s about it.
What They Could Have Improved
This is probably the easiest section of this review to write, as the answer to this is seemingly everything. They certainly didn’t do a horrible job at this game, and it plays well enough to increase your wallet and bank account. Aside from that, however, and it all looks like a nice first attempt at making a game, but not something that is polished enough to compete with the better ones.
For starters, they could have made the graphics a lot better. Even if they used well done illustrations instead of 3-D models, it would have looked a lot easier on the eyes. They probably use the 3-D models because when you match some thing it has a very limited amount of animation afterwards, but we don’t think this is preferable to simply having better looking images all around.
Although this game does have a bonus mode, we would love to have simply more compelling gameplay. The bonus here consists of you picking at the beginning how you would like the game mechanics to be affected, but after that, you could be forgiven for forgetting it even exists. This is exactly what bonus feature should feel like!
General Style and Presentation
This is probably our biggest gripe with the game. The game itself has a somewhat dingy and brown look, everything is static and bland, and there is not much charisma to be found on the images that you will see. It’s a sad thing because we really do think the theme had potential, but that’s what ended up resulting despite all of their efforts. They would have done a lot better to spend their time hiring a 2-D illustrator to make it look great, and maybe adding in some animations when you spend to keep things looking inventive there.
Summing Up the Game
Cash Cow Slots is a game that pays pretty well, and that’s the nicest thing we can say about it. The bonus mode stopped being interesting after you try it once, the winnings can’t make up for the fact that the graphics are mediocre, and the entire experience is somewhat lackluster the longer your player. With the stiff competition you will find on the Internet for these games, it is hard to imagine many people will end up referring this one to friends. We recommend giving it a try if you like the south, and because you made it all the way here. Other than that, however, and you would probably be better off playing any other game.
